Hi
With winter looming I thought last night I'd introduce Sully to the sand school flood lights.... thankfully, I had decided to do this on the ground :-)
He was not good at all, I'd say terrified! I tried to get him calm but spent the entire time just walking him around and asking him to stand without running into my space. Not easy. He turned into a huge, snorting, baby!
I took him back in there today and initially I didn't think I would get him in there (despite it being broad daylight with no lights on).
I know the way to tackle this is using parelli techniques, but my lack of experience is not helping. My very first parelli lesson I was told not to look at him when leading him, that was impossible last night as I felt the need to keep looking at him to see if he was going to knock my flying, ha ha!
Right at the end I got him to stand calmly and he actually licked his lips, which I took as a sign of him starting to relax... but then when it came to walking on again and leaving the school he started with all the snorting etc again.
Any advise? Should I try again really soon or should I give him a little while to recover and then try again? Any tips of things to try would be much appreciated!
Thanks

If i were you Rachel - I would not ask him to stand still - because then hes basically trying to cope with everything without something to do If he wants to move - MAKE HIM MOVE! Maybe put some objects out in the school - move him around and try and get him to put his nose on objects to give him something to do and build his confidence Are you on Parelli Connect? They did a DVD a couple of months ago where it was all about the "Touch It" game - Watch that or if not i will lend you my DVD This then takes the pressure off of him and your not worrying about the snorting and spooking Let me know if you want me to come down and give you some pointers xxxxx
